The Accelerated Reader Program is a reading program for ALL readers regardless of their reading level. Through the Accelerated Reader program, students are encouraged to read for their enjoyment and answer comprehension questions (via computer program) about their selection. This is an optional program, but we are encouraging student participation.
Students usually start taking tests in September. First grade students typically start during the second half of the year. If your child is in Kindergarten or First Grade and is already reading, please e-mail his/her teacher to see if they are ready to begin taking tests. Remember, they not only must read the book themselves but must also be able to read the questions/answers and complete the test by themselves.
This event runs from September to May. Library books are labeled for various reading levels. After a book is read, children are able to take a short computerized test either at the school library or in their classroom. If the child passes the test, points are awarded according to the number of questions answered correctly. SFEPTA provides prizes each 9 week period based on the points accumulated. Click below for more information including a link to the current test list.
