WHAT IS REFLECTIONS?

Reflections is an annual (preschool- grade 12) arts recognition and achievement program that gives students the opportunity to express themselves creatively.  This year’s theme is “Beauty is..."  All students are encouraged to participate by exploring their thoughts and feelings and creating art that reflects the theme.  The type of art must fall into one of the four art categories:  visual arts, photography, literature, or musical composition.  Although the Reflections program follows a “contest” format, winning is not the emphasis.  Rather, participation in and appreciation for the arts is the Reflections program’s goal.  The student does not have to be an expert artist to participate!

HOW ARE PROJECTS JUDGED?

Projects are judged BLINDLY and IMPARTIALLY by local professionals/artists in the four art categories (none are from South Fayette Elementary).  The only information made available to judges is the project title and optional artist statement.  Judging of projects at all levels is based on evidence of artistic ability and relevance to the theme.

 FINALISTS

The top five finalists in each category and age division from South Fayette Elementary will be awarded prizes and will be recognized at school.  All of these finalists’ projects will then move forward to the PTA council level of judging.  Winners at subsequent levels will also be recognized.  (If students do not place in the top five at any level, their projects are returned to the SFEPTA and kept for display at the art fair in the spring.)

LEVELS OF JUDGING

Local level (South Fayette Elementary)

Council level (Local schools)

Regional level (Allegheny County)

State level (Pennsylvania)

National level (the whole USA!)

South Fayette Elementary has had students compete (and win!) as high as the state level.

AGE DIVISIONS

Primary (Preschool - 2)

Intermediate ( 3 - 5)

***The top 5 winners in each age division/category from our school win $10 Target gift cards!***

The winning projects then move on to higher

levels of judging.

*GOOD LUCK TO ALL ARTISTS!*
